FAQs

Do I need a referral?
No, you do not need a referral to see a psychologist. If you wish to claim a rebate from Medicare you will need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. If your sessions are to be funded by a third party, such as WorkCover or your employer, you will need to provide a claim number or contact details for your case manager to confirm payment methods before your first session. Your psychologist will work with you to set this up.
How do I book an appointment?
To book an appointment please either complete the contact form or call us on 0419622061. After initial contact your psychologist will tentatively book a time for you and send you a link to complete intake information and consent forms. Once these are returned, your appointment will be confirmed.
What will happen in my first session?
Starting therapy with a psychologist can be daunting, and it’s natural to feel nervous or hesitant. At Attune Psychology Services, we understand this and work to ensure the process is as smooth and comfortable for you as possible. At the start of your first session, you and your psychologist will review important paperwork, including confidentiality, consent, fees, and the cancellation process, as well as information on how the therapy process typically works. After this, you and your psychologist will explore relevant details to develop a thorough understanding of you and your concerns. This may include your background history, family and social relationships, work history, and past access to support. This initial exploration can take 1 to 2 sessions, depending on the nature of your concerns and goals. Based on this information, you and your psychologist will develop a plan for how to work together to address your difficulties and achieve your goals.
How do I know if Attune Psychology Services is a right fit for me?
At Attune Psychology Services, we work with adults and couples on a range of clinical concerns. We find that our best outcomes are achieved with individuals who are motivated to engage in the therapy process and can commit to regular sessions. This commitment allows you to fully experience the benefits that psychological therapy can offer. If you encounter any challenges with attendance or engaging in sessions, your psychologist will work with you to address these issues and develop suitable options. Feeling connected and safe with your psychologist is essential, and we strive to provide that experience. However, we also understand that it’s not always straightforward. If you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can discuss this further.
How many sessions do I need?
The length of therapy will vary depending on your presenting concerns, relevant history, and treatment goals. Please feel free to discuss any questions you may have with your psychologist once you’ve started your sessions.
Can I claim through Medicare or my health insurance?
If you have a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP and a valid Medicare card, you are entitled to a Medicare rebate for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. For a 50-minute session with a Registered Psychologist, you can claim a Medicare rebate of $96.65. If you have private health insurance, you may be eligible to claim part of your session fee through your provider. Please contact your health insurance company directly to confirm your rebate options.
What are the different therapeutic approaches used?
